"The Cimatics festival takes place in Brussels starting on the 26th of October until the 6th of November 2005 . In several locations, including Cinema Nova, MAP, Mediaruimte, Place Sainte-Catherine and rue de Laeken . The festival not only brings thumping electronic party-fun , but also audiovisual concerts and performances , ' live cinema '-shows, interactive audiovisual installations , lectures and a special dedicated "Cineketje" workshop for kids.

Cimatics has only just reached its third edition this year. In this short time span however, the Brussels festival has become one of Europe's leading events for live audiovisual Arts and VJ-ing".

"London-based artist Kaffe Matthews's Three Crosses of Queensbridge is a symphony for radios and bicycles. Replacing notes written on a musical staff are drawings on a neighbourhood map: providing various itineraries for visitors to follow on bikes, the artist broadcasts an electronic composition over a live radio signal. Cycling around the streets with radios receiving the broadcast, participants become performers and passers-by become accidental audience members".

"The Generator.x project is a conference, exhibition and weblog examining the role of software and generative strategies in current digital art and design.

"The computer has become an essential tool in all forms of cultural production, and as such it has become the constant companion of creatives everywhere. Increasingly, the computer is both the means of production and the architecture of presentation. In the case of meta-media like HTML and Flash, the software is the medium.

Intrigued by the power of computation and the realization that all digital media are in fact software, a new generation of artists and designers are turning to code as a means of new expression and a way to better control their medium. They have realized that software is not the transparent interface it has conventionally been thought to be. Instead, software is a material that both limits and permits personal expression".
